Hey Reader!
Your home office is a content creation goldmine. Does it double as a tax goldmine? Let’s find out.
Canadian creators can claim home office expenses if their workspace is used primarily for work. This includes a portion of your rent or mortgage interest, utilities, and maintenance costs. Calculate the workspace proportion by dividing the office area by your home’s total square footage.
In the U.S., the home office deduction requires a space that’s exclusively and regularly used for your business. Calculate deductions using either the simplified method ($5 per square foot, up to 300 square feet) or the actual expenses method, which is identical to the Canadian explanation above.
